My personal work as an artist ranges broadly, however there have always been key influences that tie everything I do together. Elements of Jazz, visual media, contemporary classical composition and traditional music heritage from specific places that are integral to my identity are typically strong underlying factors in most of my projects. As a performer I see myself primarily as an improviser. I find that this allows me to constantly be flexible, learn, collaborate, explore uncharted musical territories and find new sounds, which is a process that I absolutely love. My work as a composer also explores spaces where written material is equally balanced with improvisation and the two elements inform and influence each other greatly. In my current work I use a blend of traditional and graphic score notation and I am also currently exploring the worlds of live video manipulation as a way of improvising graphic score notation with musicians, as well as processing of effects and electronics on my live vocals in a more contemporary and avant garde approach. Throughout the years and in depth studies of music I was always drawn to the idea of familiarising myself with “the rules” so that I can then break them. Through this approach I strive to build a solid skillset of musicianship and ear training in a way that can then enable me to have complete freedom in self expression through my creativity, which does not necessarily fit in a specific box. I see music and life as one thing, and in my perspective , my creative process is not separated from my identity. As a result I tend to explore many different, yet specific, elements of music making, which I find to be a direct reflection of my intersectionality as a human being.
